Bob Piper

Bob began his musical journey playing the guitar and toying with drums at the ripe age of six. For years he focused on the drum set, and at the age of 11, was encouraged by his grandfather to play the piano. His first professional job was as a drummer when he was 14. In his late teens, Bob began to write original music, and experimented with, and fell deeply in love with the guitar. It was quite apparent that Bob's approach to music was different right from the beginning, writing music and scring the notes as shapes... and most striking, restringing his guitars, and using open tunings.

Influenced by the music of masters such as John cage, Igor Sravinsky and Edgar Varese, Bob's music leaned towards an orchestral and “atonal” sound. His desire to be "out of the ordinary" gave him an appreciation for the likes of Captain Beefhart, Frank Zappa and ex-Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett. "It was Hackett's approach and technique to playing guitar in rock music that gave me insight and motivation to where I wanted to go... and what I wanted to be.

Performing for over 35 years, his most successful project overall was the band Pleaides. Their premier release "A Moment Of Clarity" was revered as ground-breaking, and is still a masterpiece to this day, timeless. Bob has also scored for motion pictures, using an EBow for a most dramatic effect a soundtrack can have.

His playing and writing skills are rich in content. It is as though his guitar is an extension of himself. Melodic and harmonic passages, lightening fast licks to subtle padded overtones, chord clusters, and chaotic rhythms, all in one breath. These are the characteristics that continue to tell his story.
